Tennis Shoes Or High Heels?

Every time I plan another trip to Russia I face a dilemma of sorts - I need to go through my closet to pick the best outfits. Perhaps that is standard operating procedure to nearly all of us, but what does that mean for me and you? Do people in the US and in Russia really dress differently?

To answer, I must establish a simple premise: It's more difficult to discuss an "average American" than an "average Russian". American society is a melting pot comprised of people from all over the world with different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. One common theme in the USA is tolerance to others and this tolerance starts with the way people look.

Here it's more difficult to surprise society with unusual appearances as the definition of "usual" appearance has seen marked change in the past 40 years here (my husband says it was not always so). With individual liberty comes individual expression. This is not to say that there is no cohesive theme to dress. No. What I mean to say is that people choose to look the way they like and sometimes that choice is quite dramatically different. There are certainly some standards within particular social groups and regions, e.g. business attire for work, jeans accepted as casual dress; however, there is no universal fashion and, what is more important, there is no "enforcement" of such. Each person follows their personal criteria often giving equal consideration to comfort ahead of style. A woman in a business suit can walk downtown wearing tennis shoes...need I say more?

This is just one of the important differences between Americans and Russians. For years we have been hiding our personalities in collective society, now we choose to emulate "everybody else". Having seen Tobolsk, Tyumen (both in Siberia), Moscow and Saint Petersburg within the past month, I have noticed one trend for women in all of these cities: this year it is skinny jeans tucked into high boots with heels. Anywhere you look, you will see young girls and women following this common trend. Having traveled and lived in all different parts of the US, I will only note dominating shorts, jeans, T-shirts, tennis shoes and flip flops. After seeing this kind of clothing, I always find it weird to get back to busy Moscow subway with its high heels and expensive outfits often purchased with their very last dollar (ruble as it were). Russian women tend to spend much time, energy and money (some might say too much) on looking good exaggerating the importance of our appearance. Said another way, looking fashionable for Russians carries with it a steep price and commitment.

Just remember, regardless of how good someone looks on the outside, it is what is on the inside that matters.

Again, you failed to answer my accusations against Antidate about the unethical and illegal practices your members are involved, supported and tolerated by the moderators and the owners of that site. When the same thing is happening to one of your members, then you scream foul. I do not have a close mind biased view, like you do, and I do not act the same way as the Antidate circus acts, Judge, jury and executioners.

On the AD site you have broken every law in Russia and internationally about decency and Copyright infringement, and you still go on defending the indefensible!

I have learned nothing or any lessons from any of your women there, including you and I have posted my travel report and wedding photos in a reputable forum and not in your forum frequented by desperate and frustrated rejected woman, which are damaged goods for life!

Sorry to remind you the obvious but the postings on AD are in Russian language and there are extremely few men who can speak fluent the language and there is nothing much more they can learn there than in any other English speaking board. There are many Russian women, writing on these English speaking forums with excellent balanced views, giving good advice and the inside perception in many matters.

Have you forgotten about Lilia, Zosya, Jazzy, Linda, Alenika, and so many others?

<sgrug> whatever you say Wiz. I just want to point that yur biazed closed minded opinion about AD has "personal" base/ But at last you learned your lesson and was not babbling about your "experience" with your now to be wife.
Others could too learn something by reading how Russain women see thier actions, what they like and expect and what they don;t like, don't understand and can't bear in dealing with foreigners

HERE ( and at the similar) MALES' boards you can't get information about what WOMEN think. You could get only "what males think about what women think" which in majority cases is toooo far from reality. Another sourse for such information icould be women from dating agencies. But harddly anybody could deny a fact that their opinion is affected by their main goal - to get clients
But of course oit's also possible not to bother with what women think about you foreigner male and live with own illusions .... until one more faled trip or devorse

RE: Useful link

Helen

I was aware of your PS directed to me but I am entitled to express my opinion regarding the ANTIDATE board and site you want to advertise here. The board and the forums are part of the same stable.

In a typical Russian woman?s fashion you avoided to address my serious accusations about the dubious practices, double standards and total hypocrisy of the owners and moderators of that site. It is obvious that you can?t defend the indefensible and talking about winning prizes for daring to talk about my contacts with Russian women, now I am married to one, proves my point that Antidate is run by people with low moral and ethical standards.

As about the usefulness from visiting that site I can assure anybody that you will learn nothing more that you can?t learn over here or on any other English speaking forums. The only thing that you will get there is ridicule and making fun of you from those desperate and damaged women. They are only there to vent their anger and frustrations against any foreign man.

Visit at your peril.

That PS Wiz was written for you personally as well Because your reaction was predictable As you still have "claims"to Antidate for your face posted there because you won a prize like "talented" writer???t your "adventures" in Russia

But I gave the link to SITE not to the forum. That site contains articles-advices-opinions-polls and etc about dating process through internet. Articles are wrote not by women who were hurted" by males ( for that purpose there is some - pay attention to the word "SOME" - sections in the FORUM of Antidate SITE) . Those articles are wrote by professional juranalists and people who are involved/interested in this business. So they ARE useful if someone wishes to know how this business is seen in Russia. ( You rare could get RUSSIAN opinion at foreigners' sites)

PS As for name of Antidate then go to English section - you Wiz do know a way there and read ( at LAST) explanation. But better stop going circles over silly issue why is it "antidate" and start to learn Russain if you wish to post your opinion about Russian language site )

RE: Useful link

The Antidate site, as Hellen mentioned above, is in Russian language and they have just a small room in English where Hellen is the Moderator. So if you don?t speak fluent Russian and use an on line translator? then you will have much trouble for learning very little!

So what the name ANTIDATE means to you?

My interpretation is that its members or owners ARE AGAINST DATING?? and that says it all!

If you visit the site you will discover that ?the wall of shame? which Hellen mentioned is nothing more than a place where Antidate permits its members, especially those rejected by foreign men to post their grievances and of course post Photos, and other personal details of the man in question without any verification of the REAL circumstances or any kind of redress. If the person, whose photos and details appear on the Antidate ?wall of shame? tries to defend himself then you will notice that the women, like a pack of wolves, will not get involved in any meaningful discussion but simply will make fun and ridicule him.

Antidate sails very close to the wind, breaking every Rule of Decency and Law of International and Russian Copyright, has its servers in Russia where is extremely difficult to serve court or any other legal proceedings and thrives in destroying reputations of many decent men, who had the unfortunate luck to meet one of their damaged goods members.

Antidate projects the image that has a powerful influence on the international Dating scene but in reality is nothing more than a small club of frustrated FSU women, airing their gripes against men who met and rejected them!

If you visit the site and read the English section, ?Crocodile tears? you will notice the huge difference between its members who live still in Russia (frustrated and vicius) and of those who have moved already abroad (open minded and with Westernised outlooks)!

Yes, I am there too, because I dared too speak openly about my contacts with Russian women on the Russian Dating boards and also about sex!

Russian Holidays

Russian Holidays / Celebrations

Russian Women Superstitions

Russian Women Superstitions

..Russian women feel visibly pregnant women shouldn't cut their hair.

..feel whoever can bite off the largest bite from a bread loaf at a wedding will be the head of the household.

..believe that if you are with a woman that you are not fully acquainted with yet, don't be photographed with her alone. Get an additional person. Otherwise it will not work between you two, as she's not your wife yet.

..believe if a knife falls down from the table, a male guest will come soon. If a spoon or a fork falls down, a female guest will come soon.

..believe if your left hand itches, someone will give you the money; if your right hand that itches, you will have to give someone your money.

..think if your left eye itches, success will be forthcoming; if your right one itches, a misfortune will happen.

..Russian women think that if you go to some place and you see a person coming towards you with an empty bucket, it's a bad sign, unless the bucket has something in it.

..when there's company and you have a silent pause, it's because an angel flew near.

..believe when plates or dishes break it brings good luck.

..feel that if one stands or sits between two people with the same name, a wish it will be realized

..think if you don't recognize your fellow-friend he will be rich

.. Russian women believe if you dream something good, in reality it will be very bad in reality and vice versa.

..think that a black cat crossing your way is a bad sign

..believe a leap-year is considered to be difficult and the same is applied to the number 13

Tablets of Stone

Spent March April and May 2005 in Warrington England between Liverpool and Manchester on an IT contract. If you think the Red Sox vs Yankees rivalry is something it pales in comparison to Mancuenians and Liverpudlians (also derisving referred to as Scousers).

Took the Magical Mystery Tour of Liverpool and found that these people love to party starting at Noon and go all night - Sundays too!

Manchester is even more wild. Met a former Manchester Playboy Club bunny who owns a nice wine bar in Altrincham.

Was introduced to words about ladies like:

Mingers (not good)

Shag (good)

Goers (really really good)

Was amazed at the complete lack of clothing worn by the women on cold rainy springtime nights out. Minnie skirts and Halter Tops, well endowed no bra with CMFM shoes - real Goers!

Was in Warrington dying from listening to Michael Jackson in the Chicago Blues cafe and went out on the street , met and couple of dodgy birds and asked "is there a proper Rock and Roll bar around here". They grabbed me arm and arm and yelled we love yanks - next thing I know I am in a VIP lounge in a Huge Theater Night Club and the DJ is dedicating songs to Mike from Boston while I am arm in arm with a couple of the prettiest women I have ever seen (both married mind you). Did not meet one sexually repressed Brit or Scot in my entire stay, perhaps they all stay in London ;]
